  • SUNDAY 10/14/12

Sunday was our one full day in Puerta Viejo. Kels woke up and had a sore ear from the dog fighting she did the night before. We had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for breakfast made by kels, excellent cook. Peanut butter and jelly tastes a little different in this country but still yummy.

After breakfast we just went walking in the beautiful town of Puerta Viejo and gradually found us some badass coasting bikes to ride in the town for only 5,000 mil or $10 USD. Very dangerous to ride bikes or walk or whatever because of how the system is in this country for driving. Lets just say if these people were driving in the states, they would have so many traffic violations or be dead from car crashes.

We rode our cute blue and pink bikes around town and then towards the outskirts of town. Found ourselves hungry and at the MOST AMAZING fish taco restaurant ever, TASTY WAVES!!! Omg I dream of going back there. We stayed there for about for about 2 hours and watched football, petted perritos(small dogs), made friends with the staff (shout out to Jackson and Brighton). Awesome Americans! Definitely took care of us, so naturally left them an awesome tip which resulted in free delicious shots!!!

After that Kels and I rode our bikes across the street and to the beautiful beach. There was an island about a half mile from the shore, so naturally I wanted to swim to it. Started swimming and got about half way out there and realized that I am not a person capable of swimming a mile (round trip). So swam back in. But maybe next time when I am more in shape I will do it. Maybe drink a Monster energy drink before.

After our beach adventure we rode bikes back into town and it started to rain. So we returned the bikes to the owners who are a pretty fun older couple that reek like weed.

Heading back to our awesome hostel in the rain sucks. Especially when those drops that drizzle down to the tip of your nose and cannon ball off, they make a weird tickling sensation. Anyways, enough talk about nose trickling rain! After we got back to hostel and left some of our stuff there, we left and headed to a sushi restaurant, sushi garden for UNLIMITED SUSHI!!!!! The funny thing about that is we each pay 20 bucks for it and it is pretty much the same as getting 20 bucks of sushi or less because you can’t humanly eat an INSANE amount of sushi! :(. Now Kels and I have had our sushi fix to last us years haha. But seriously! After sushi we went back to the hostel again filled up and pretty much ready to sleep due to food comas! Went to sleep at 9:30 or so, which was perfect and a definite satisfying/needed sleep after dinner and a fun day!!!

  • SATURDAY: Today we got up around 8 or so, so we can get to the bus station by 12. We went around town this morning and went into a Catholic Church to see the architecture. Starting to feel like I am my father’s son because while we were checking out the church I noticed a ton but mainly left with noticing that they had industrial outlets in there!! We walked around town after this looking for a store that had the works for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for our lunches in Puerta Viejo on the weekend! Finally headed on one bus from heredia to our station in San Jose. We hung out in San Jose for about an hour, bought a watch and then got on a bus with many other English speaking people on toward Puerta Viejo! WOOT WOOT! The bus ride lasted close to 5 hours long, but was comfortable cuddling next to my beautiful girl! Dang I am whipped haha. Whipped, for those of you who don’t know, is when a man loves a woman and will do anything for her. For example, on the bus ride Kelsey needed to sleep so when she was sprawled out across her chair and my arms, my one arm that she had her head on hurt really bad from the pressure against the window, but I told myself to push through it cause she was sleeping like a baby! IM WHIPPED. I got so excited when the drive was finished and we were like a mile out from puerta viejo!!! The town an hostel were packed due to the bicycleta(bicycle) race going on there that weekend. We got settled in to our hostel room which was awesome. Slept on top quarters then the desk and dressing area on bottom! (You can see in the pictures that are uploaded!)

Within the next hour, Kelsey got bit in the left ear by a blue heeler. Her earring somehow was eaten off(joke to the dog when he goes to poop!) and her ear lobe was cut up and hanging a little bit. IS IT BLEEDING???!!??? she asked me haha. oh so funny how being in shock works! Thank goodness it was the owners dog and the owner was American. The next hour while we were waiting for the taxi to come and we had free shots and free food since they were really nervous about it happening and didn’t want a lawsuit on their hands. YAY to free booze! :).

The taxi driver got us to the hospital muy rapido(very fast) which was good. Hospital was definitely what you would expect a Costa Rican hospital to be. Short story long or however that thing goes, Kelsey got a blood pressure reading and a bandaid on her ear which cost her 70 bucks haha. OH btw we never paid that at all cause that’s dumb. Just left😜. Muahahah.

And the rest of the night we got back had a few more shots and fell asleep in a nice hammock, all snuggled up.

  • FRIDAY

It is now the first full day I get to have with kels out of many thank goodness! We woke up and just laid in bed for a little while till we decided it is time to get up and at em! We spent the day seeing the town in all it’s third world country-ness! Had pizza for lunch and tried some different, delicious waters and stuff! At night we went to the bar that was at the hotel and had some cervesas(beers). And Kels was nice enough to buy me a shot haha. Weird thinking the drinking age is 18 here. Makes me like CR more because 21 is an outrageous number. By the time someone turns 21 they are over it and don’t care about drinking as much. After our drinks we walked down to a pizza place again and had some spectacular pizza FOR CHEAP! Everyone was out at the bars and having a good time so it was awesome seeing the culture in of everyone. I now understand the feeling of being one that is out of place. Like when Mexicans that can’t speak good English in ‘MERICA pretty much.

  • THURSDAY- Today I had to wake up very bright and early to get to airport by 6 am. I am very thankful for such an amazing brother because he woke up early as well and drove me. When I got there I had to deal with a line for checking in bags. Took me 45 minutes just to get my bags checked in and guess what, I was originally 4th in line. In Texas o met up with one of kels’ friend’s mom and chatted up a storm. Anyways throughout the rest of my flying day I had some expensive meals and delayed planes. Typical BS for airports!

I finally land in San Jose, Costa Rica, or at least a town on the outskirts of San Jose! By this time I am so incredibly anxious to see kels and just want to say screw looking for the check in bag at the airport, not to mention it took so long to get the luggage while waiting for it! I finally glided through customs and baggage scanning! When I walked outside it felt as if I was a famous movie star because everyone and their grand mother were outside looking to see if I needed a taxi. I’m looking and looking and within a few minutes I see the most AMAZING, most BEAUTIFUL girl in all of Costa Rica. She was wearing a ravishing, bright orange dress. OMG my heart was racing with excitement! Finally I was able to see the love of my life again!!!

We left the airport on a bus and fled towards heredia. When we got there we walked around town for a bit and finally got to the hotel. We were both really hungry and I wanted Taco Bell. Thank God there was a Taco Bell in town only a few blocks down! The TBell was awesome as always although THERE WAS NO BAJA BLAST which is half the reason to go! :(. The rest of the night was spent walking around town and experiencing it and taking it all in!

  • MIS AVENTURAS DE COSTA RICA:

Introduction: So for months I thought I was leaving at 8:30 at night from sacramento, ca airport to head to Costa Rica to see my dream girl, but apparently it was Thursday morning at 8:30 that I had to leave! That was a closely missed flight. And thank goodness I found out 2 days before. That meant more time in paradise with kels. Kels is obviously the nickname for the love of my life, Kelsey L. Staub and in this blog story, she is referred to as such!
